NORTHPORT, NY — April 8th — Ryan Gerow has been elected as the Northport Volunteer Fire Department's second assistant chief.

Gerow provides operational and leadership expertise to the chief's office, having most recently served as Captain of Hook and Ladder Company 1. In order to maintain leadership and supervision of training and response operations, department elections are a common procedure in volunteer organizations.

Serving others is a family tradition for Gerow. Both his grandfather, former Chief Robert Guinn, and father, Artie Gerow, were Chief of Department from 2006 to 2008. In the fire service, multigenerational service is still prevalent.
