NORTHPORT, NY — April 8th — As Chief Tom Smalling concluded his tenure as Chief of Department, the Northport Volunteer Fire Department honored him.

Smalling maintained service to the Northport community while managing department operations, training, and emergency response initiatives. In volunteer departments, leadership responsibilities include managing resources, organizing staff, and assisting with daily preparedness.

As part of custom, departments throughout the area commemorate the end of a chief's term to honor dedication and service to members and locals.
