HUNTINGTON MANOR, NY — April 13th — During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Appreciation Week, the Huntington Manor Fire Department honored its dispatchers.

The agency keeps a dispatcher on duty seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, to handle both routine and emergency calls. As the initial point of contact, dispatchers collect vital information, allocate resources, and keep in touch with field units.

In fire and emergency medical services (EMS) operations, dependable communications are crucial, particularly in multi-unit responses and mutual aid situations. Dispatchers ensure that information is sent between command and operating units in an understandable manner and assist in coordinating responses.
