Afton, NY — March 23rd — Afton Fire Department personnel received training on a new cascade system for replenishing SCBA cylinders during emergency situations. The technique enables staff to more effectively manage the air supply on the site by filling air bottles in stages using many high-pressure cylinders. System setup, bottle rotation, and safe filling techniques were all covered in the training. During prolonged crises, cascade systems are frequently employed to minimize downtime and reduce reliance on external air resources.
The National Fire Protection Association's standards place a strong emphasis on the significance of air management and appropriate SCBA use for firefighter safety. By using a cascade system, a constant air supply is maintained, enabling interior staff to efficiently rotate and carry out tasks. Frequent training promotes effective and safe fireground operations.
