This patch belongs to the Winooski Fire Department, located in Winooski, Vermont. We are a small combination department. Fun fact: we are the only Winooski in the world. “Winooski” translates to “Onion” in the language of Native American Abenaki as the first settlers there would forage onions by our river. Nicknamed The Onion City. Our city is only 1 square mile of roughly 10,000 residents. The station in the center of the patch was the original station from 1899 and in 1977 was destroyed in a fire. The top of the old tower was salvaged and placed in front of our new fire station, which still stands today.
