Townsend Fire-EMS Announces Passing of Director Coit

TOWNSEND, MA — March 20th — Shirley Coit, a retired Emergency Management Director, passed away, according to the Townsend Fire-EMS Department, located at 13 Elm Street. For many years, Coit assisted the Town of Townsend with emergency response, coordination, and preparation. In order to maintain readiness and improve mutual assistance operations, she collaborated with fire, EMS, police, and regional partners. During major catastrophes and extreme weather, emergency management directors are crucial in coordinating resources, revising plans, and assisting organizations.


Her efforts contributed to the development of mechanisms that still serve the community today. Her unwavering dedication to public safety and local service was acknowledged by department leaders. New Beginnings United Methodist Church in Townsend had a memorial service.
