This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

HOOKSETT, NH — March 23rd — In Allenstown, the Hooksett Fire Rescue Department trained the Allenstown Fire Department in ice rescue. Firefighters performed self-rescue, victim evacuation, using ropes and rescue gear, and other cold water rescue procedures. Training took place close to the river, where unstable and dangerous late-season ice conditions can occur.

This kind of training is routinely carried out by departments in river areas to keep them prepared for ice and water emergencies. In shifting conditions, crews concentrated on coordination, communication, and safe operations. The training offered a chance to reaffirm important skills with mutual assistance partners because a shorter ice season was anticipated. The training enhances regional reaction capabilities and promotes operational readiness.
