CROGHAN, NY — March 29th — The Croghan Fire Department, located at 6855 Fire Hall Street, celebrated 150 years of service by showcasing significant historical advancements. The current hydrant system was established in 1910 when a waterworks line was built from Reservoir Road into the village. At the firehouse, a portion of the original wooden line is still on exhibit.

A large fire on April 30, 1912, claimed two lives and damaged a large portion of the Main Street business sector. During that event, the recently built St. Stephen's Church was spared. In 1934, the department acquired its first motorized fire engine as part of its ongoing modernization efforts. Croghan started providing EMS services in 1949 with its first ambulance, responding to 28 calls in its first year of operation.
