PALMYRA, NY — March 13th — To improve their ability to respond to water-related situations, Palmyra Fire Department firefighters trained in water rescue at a nearby boat launch. Crews rehearsed scenarios in which people were trapped in flowing water. To reach simulated victims and safely return them to shore, firefighters employed shore-based rescue procedures and toss rope bags. Members also went over the coordination and communication required for water rescue operations.

Since reactions to situations involving waterways may call for numerous agencies and specialized equipment, departments in Wayne County frequently train together. Frequent drills assist firemen in staying up to date on the rescue equipment and methods utilized in river and shoreline crises. According to officials, this kind of training guarantees that personnel are ready for water rescue situations and strengthens teamwork.
