AUBURN, NH — March 9th — Three probationary members, a senior fireman, and the duty crew participated in a water supply training session led by members of the Auburn NH Fire Department. Establishing a water supply in places with few fire hydrants was the main goal of the training. In addition to reviewing the usage of dry hydrants and cisterns, which enable engines and tankers to draw water from ponds or subterranean storage during fire occurrences, firefighters rehearsed drawing operations.

These systems are frequently used by rural communities to keep water flowing during suppression operations. Working alongside seasoned firefighters, the drill provided new members with hands-on experience with pumps, hoses, and drafting equipment. A steady supply of water is still essential for fireground operations, particularly in communities lacking hydrant systems. Frequent training makes it possible for teams to locate water sources fast in an emergency.
