NORTHAMPTON, MA — March 27th — A regional training on impalement, entrapment, and crush-type injuries that can happen in car wrecks, industrial accidents, and other emergencies was held by Northampton Fire Rescue. For the workshop, Northampton staff members were joined by firefighters from departments throughout western Massachusetts. Crews practiced patient stabilization, rescue coordination, and safe removal techniques as they worked through realistic scenarios meant to mimic complex rescue occurrences.
This kind of training aids in preparing firemen for scenarios in which victims may become trapped by vehicles, construction materials, or machinery. Careful preparation and collaboration are necessary in these situations to safeguard patients and rescuers. The Western Region Homeland Security Advisory Council, which supports public safety agency training programs and regional emergency preparedness, sponsored the drill.
