WESTMINSTER, MA — March 30th — Four Wachusett Mountain Ski Patrol members were honored by Department Westminster members for their actions during a recent cardiac arrest incident at the ski facility. The ski patrol team promptly started advanced first aid and CPR on a guest who was experiencing cardiac arrest, according to officials. Before more EMS personnel could arrive, responders used an automated external defibrillator (AED) and were able to recover a pulse in roughly five minutes.

Rapid defibrillation and early CPR are essential components of the cardiac arrest "chain of survival," which enhances patient outcomes. Ski patrol crews receive specific training and are sometimes the first medical responders at mountain resorts. The great outcome was attributed to the teamwork and prompt efforts, according to department officials.
