Gorham, NH - Fire and EMS personnel recently participated in a comprehensive training session focused on integrating newly acquired rope rescue systems into their emergency response operations. The initiative reflects a significant step forward in improving technical rescue readiness.
The department secured funding through a combination of grants, community support, and municipal contributions, allowing for a complete upgrade of essential rope rescue gear. The new inventory includes 600 feet of high-performance Sterling rope, a pair of Petzl Maestro descenders, two CMC Capto rope grabs, and an updated technical rescue reference guide.
Expert consultation was provided by Paul Cormier of Mountain Rescue Service, who assisted in evaluating and selecting equipment tailored to the department’s operational needs. He also conducted hands-on instruction, ensuring crews developed confidence and proficiency with the new systems.
With these enhancements, specialized rescue setups have been strategically assigned to both the Rescue Truck and the department’s UTV. This ensures rapid deployment during emergencies involving difficult terrain, such as steep slopes or embankments, where safe and efficient patient extraction is critical.
