Bill Wood was acknowledged by the Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue Department after retiring from the New Hampshire Fire Academy and Emergency Medical Services.
Wood and his wife, Ann, were long-time members of the Wolfeboro Rescue Squad, which combined with the fire department in 1992 to become the current department.
Throughout his career, Wood worked as an Emergency Planning Coordinator and was instrumental in spreading the use of automated external defibrillators throughout the state. His efforts contributed to the deployment of over 8,500 AEDs throughout New Hampshire.
Wood also has the longest-tenured national certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, having held it for 52 years.
