TABERG, NY — March 1st — In order to rehearse the rescue techniques utilized in winter trail situations, the Taberg Volunteer Fire Company held a simulated snowmobile accident rehearsal. Two scenarios intended to replicate typical snowmobile wrecks were part of the training. In the first case, a cyclist was thrown into a ravine after colliding with a tree. The patient was transported up the slope by firefighters using a winch system after being reached by a UTV and placed in a Stokes basket.
In the second scenario, a rider hit a downed tree and became trapped underneath a snowmobile. Before moving the patient by snowmobile, crews practiced CPR, extrication, and the usage of an automated chest compressor. While local trail leaders watched activities, the Lee Center Volunteer Fire Department helped with the drill.
