Appling County Schools Closed Ahead of Potential Severe Weather
March 15, 2026 — The Appling County Emergency Management Agency announced that, following guidance from the National Weather Service in Jacksonville and out of an abundance of caution, all schools within the Appling County School System will be closed for students due to the potential for severe weather. Officials cited concerns over hazardous conditions that could impact travel during normal school hours. While students will not attend, staff are expected to report for a regular workday. Additionally, all after-school activities, athletics, and extracurricular events have been canceled. Superintendent Dr. Elgin Dixon emphasized that the safety of students, staff, and families remains the district’s top priority. District officials will continue to monitor weather developments and provide updates as more information becomes available.
