Bergen Fire Department Calls for More Volunteers

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

The Bergen Fire Department published a public message inviting community residents to consider joining the volunteer fire service, as membership in departments across the region declines.

According to Captain PJ Cummings, many fire departments are noticing a decrease in volunteers while emergency calls increase. As a result, the same members are responding to an increasing number of occurrences, frequently requiring mutual assistance from surrounding agencies.

Officials stated that volunteer firefighting involves dedication and training, but it also provides essential skills and the opportunity to serve the community during an emergency.

Residents who want to learn more about volunteering are welcome to visit the firehouse, attend a drill night, or contact members with inquiries about joining.
