Attleboro Fire Department and Sturdy Health Conduct Mass Casualty Drill to Enhance Emergency Preparedness

Attleboro, MA - The Attleboro Fire Department recently partnered with Sturdy Health to conduct a mock Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) drill aimed at improving coordination and preparedness for large-scale emergencies. The exercise brought together fire department leadership, operational staff, and hospital leadership to strengthen interagency collaboration.

The drill centered on key aspects of emergency response, including dispatch information requirements, response protocols, coordination through the Incident Command System, evacuation procedures, and decision-making processes related to sheltering in place versus relocating patients. Participants also engaged in a range of simulated operational scenarios designed to enhance communication, efficiency, and patient safety during high-pressure situations.

Assistant Chief Dennis Perkins emphasized the importance of such exercises, noting that regular training helps organizations respond quickly, effectively, and safely during complex emergencies. He highlighted that these drills strengthen communication, clarify roles and responsibilities, and ultimately improve community protection and care during large-scale incidents.

Although the exercise was conducted in collaboration with Sturdy Health, the training reflected a broader all-hazards approach to emergency management. It reinforced the ability of the Attleboro Fire Department and its partners to respond to a wide variety of emergencies, including natural disasters and multi-agency incidents requiring coordinated action.

The department continues to conduct regular training exercises to maintain operational readiness, enhance communication, and ensure a high level of preparedness for the safety of the community.
