North Merrick Training Night Builds Basic Hose Skills

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

MERRICK, NY — March 20th — The North Merrick Fire Department, located at 2095 Camp Avenue, Merrick, NY, USA, 11566, trained junior members and probationary firefighters in hose line operations. Members learned how to properly repack the hose after usage and practiced removing pre-connected hose lines from the equipment during the drill. Pre-connects enable personnel to immediately deploy water when they arrive on the scene and are frequently employed as the first line in many structural fires.

Senior firefighters oversaw the instruction and went over safe hose handling, line control, and equipment maintenance. All fire departments regularly conduct these exercises to help new hires gain confidence and become familiar with conventional fireground procedures before responding to work-related events.
