March 11, 2026 — The Barnstable Fire Department announced the successful implementation of new 4-gas detection meters following the award of an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in September 2025. The $31,417.98 grant funded the purchase of 12 state-of-the-art meters, along with accessories and comprehensive training for department personnel, with only a 5% cost share required from the department. The equipment, supplied by Industrial Protection Services LLC, has now been delivered and accompanied by hands-on training sessions to ensure all members are fully prepared to utilize the technology in emergency situations. These advanced meters will soon be placed into service, significantly improving the department’s ability to detect hazardous atmospheres and enhance safety for both firefighters and the public. Department officials expressed gratitude to FEMA, IPS, and supporting partners, emphasizing that continued investment in modern equipment and training is essential to maintaining high-quality emergency response services for the Barnstable community.
