Whitesville Volunteer Shares Decades of Fire Service Experience

The Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department honored PJ Sherman as part of its ongoing member feature series.


Sherman is an inside firefighter and driver who has been with the department for 38 years, spending his entire fire service career with the Whitesville organization. Department officials praised his long-standing commitment to the community and consistent response to emergency calls.


Sherman stated that he originally joined the fire service to help the community but was drawn to the friendship among firefighters. He also stressed the significance of always wearing suitable personal protective equipment for individuals considering joining the fire department.


Sherman is a police officer outside of the department and has a variety of interests, including gardening.
