The Westmere Fire Department honored longstanding member Barry Nelson, who joined the department in March 1988 and continues to serve it today.

Nelson has held numerous leadership positions throughout the years, including finance secretary, treasurer, vice president, and president, and he currently serves as the department's director.

Nelson originally became connected with the department by volunteering at community events before being encouraged to join for a six-month trial period. That commitment led to more than 37 years of service.

Nelson stated that the most satisfying aspect of his employment with the fire department has been assisting individuals of the community during emergencies and times of need.
