March 17, 2026 — The Phillips Fire Department recently completed an in-house upgrade of both compartments on Tanker 14, significantly improving organization and operational readiness while demonstrating strong fiscal responsibility.
Rather than proceeding with a third-party quote of approximately $7,000, department members utilized their skills and available resources to complete the project for just $587—saving the town more than $6,400.
Key to the project’s success was the creative reuse of materials, including shelving and pull-out drawers salvaged from the retired Engine 10. Firefighters also limited purchases to essential items, such as a toolbox for organizing hose adapters and tools, ensuring cost efficiency without sacrificing functionality.
The upgraded compartments now provide improved storage, accessibility, and overall efficiency, enhancing the department’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
Fire Chief Sean Allen praised the effort, highlighting the team’s innovation and dedication to both community service and responsible use of taxpayer funds.
