BVFD Recognizes Justin Hua as New EMS Unit Driver

Burtonsville, MD — March 5th — The BVFD declared that Firefighter II Justin Hua is now certified to operate emergency medical units after completing the department's EMS Unit Driver training program. Since joining the department in October 2022, Hua has progressed through a number of certifications. In February 2025, he became an EMT in Charge; in November 2025, he became a Firefighter I; and in February 2026, he became a Firefighter II. In May 2025, he also finished the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course.
Classroom exams, training in ambulance operations, a study of emergency vehicle laws, and familiarization with local hospital routes are all part of the BVFD driver qualifying procedure. In the last stage, an experienced driver must respond to emergency calls under supervision. Hua's commitment to training and community service was acknowledged by department commanders, Chief Ryman, and President Calderon.
