March 15, 2026 — Coeymans Fire Company #1 announced that the New York State Spring Burn Ban will take effect beginning March 16, 2026, as part of statewide efforts to reduce the risk of wildfires during dry spring conditions. The ban prohibits the burning of brush, leaves, yard debris, and the use of burn barrels, as well as brush or field fires, due to the increased potential for rapid fire spread. However, small campfires measuring three feet or less, cooking fires, charcoal or propane grills, and propane or natural gas fire pits are permitted with caution. Officials strongly recommend the use of enclosed fire pits with spark shields and having a water source or fire extinguisher readily available. Residents are reminded that violations of the burn ban may result in fines or criminal charges, and are encouraged to follow all safety guidelines and consult the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for additional information.
