March 13, 2026 — Firefighters from multiple departments gathered in Quincy this week to take part in a Structural Collapse Operations class, culminating in a hands-on skills evaluation using a real acquired structure.
The training was conducted on the 1700 block of Oak Street, where participants worked through realistic collapse scenarios, applying techniques used during building failures and technical rescue incidents. Utilizing an actual structure allowed firefighters to practice stabilization, breaching, and rescue operations in a controlled but highly realistic environment.
The Quincy Fire Department was joined by personnel from Macomb, Canton, Peoria, and Tri-Township fire departments, along with additional volunteers from Adams and Brown County departments, highlighting strong regional cooperation in specialized rescue training.
Officials extended their appreciation to St. Francis Church and School for providing access to the structure, making the training opportunity possible.
Programs like this help ensure firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively to complex structural collapse incidents, where coordination, technical skill, and teamwork are critical.
