Millville Volunteer Fire Company Engages Students at Indian River High School Career Day

Millville, NJ - On March 4, 2026, the Millville Volunteer Fire Company (MVFC) participated in Career Day at Indian River High School, offering students an inside look at the life and responsibilities of volunteer firefighters. Representing MVFC were Junior Firefighters Leland Oakley, Elizabeth Hill, and Carter Porter, alongside Senior Firefighters Christian Hill and Jon Stewart.


The team set up an interactive display in the school gymnasium, showcasing essential firefighting equipment such as SCBA (air packs), thermal imaging cameras, radios and pagers, and an automated external defibrillator (AED). Informational brochures and photographs highlighting MVFC’s role in the community were also available for students.


Throughout the event, students visited the MVFC booth to learn more about fire service operations. Firefighters answered questions, demonstrated gear and technology, and shared insights into the duties of volunteer first responders. Emphasis was placed on the importance of teamwork, training, and community service in keeping residents safe.


MVFC was proud to participate alongside several other organizations, including fellow fire companies. The engagement proved successful, with multiple students expressing interest in the junior firefighter program and community fire prevention initiatives. The company also received several applications from students eager to get involved.
