Training Focuses on Remote Response Planning in Chittenango

Chittenango, NY — March 14th — District training was held at the Chittenango Volunteer Fire Department, headquartered at 417 Genesee St., PO Box 356, with an emphasis on response issues in places with low water supply and challenging access.

Fifteen members examined areas throughout the district where access to equipment may be limited or hydrants are not easily accessible. Tanker operations, portable water tanks, and communication with nearby mutual-aid agencies were among the potential reaction tactics that the crews discussed.

When hydrant systems are scarce, rural and semi-rural fire districts frequently use these techniques. Firefighters can better plan equipment placement and water supply operations by reviewing these conditions prior to an incident. Regular training and discussion of problem areas, according to department officials, ensures that firefighters are always ready to handle accidents anywhere in the Chittenango fire district.
