Longtime Binghamton Fire Leader Steps Into Retirement

Binghamton, NY — March 13th —  The Binghamton Fire Department honored Chief Alan Gardiner on his retirement after more than 29 years of service to the City of Binghamton.


Gardiner started his employment with the agency on January 13, 1997. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, becoming Lieutenant on September 15, 2001, Captain on February 1, 2005, Fire Marshal on May 2, 2016, and Chief of Department on July 6, 2021.


During his tenure, Gardiner advocated for improvements in apparatus, equipment, and firefighter training while also representing the concerns of department members. His leadership ensured that crews have access to current tools and professional development opportunities to help them with their community work.
