March 15, 2026 — Heard County Fire & Emergency Services is urging residents to prepare for severe weather expected to move through the area overnight into the early morning hours of March 16. According to officials, a line of strong to severe storms is forecast to bring damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and the potential for tornadoes, making overnight conditions particularly hazardous as many residents may be asleep when warnings are issued. Emergency personnel are encouraging residents to take proactive steps, including enabling emergency alerts on mobile devices, ensuring weather radios are operational, and charging electronic devices in case of power outages. Residents are also advised to identify a safe location within their homes—preferably an interior room on the lowest floor away from windows—and secure any outdoor items that could become airborne in high winds. Officials emphasized the importance of checking on vulnerable individuals and signing up for the county’s CodeRED emergency notification system to receive timely alerts. Authorities continue to monitor conditions closely and stress that preparedness is key to ensuring safety during severe weather events.
