Appling County Schools to Close Ahead of Anticipated Severe Weather
March 15, 2026 — Appling County Emergency Management Agency announced that, following the latest weather briefing from the National Weather Service Jacksonville, all schools within the Appling County School System will be closed for students due to the potential for severe weather in the area. Officials stated that the decision was made out of an abundance of caution, citing forecasts that indicate hazardous conditions that could impact travel during normal school hours. While students will not report, staff members are expected to maintain a regular work schedule. In addition, all after-school activities, athletic events, and extracurricular programs scheduled for the day have been canceled. Superintendent Dr. Elgin Dixon emphasized that the safety of students, staff, and families remains the district’s top priority. District officials will continue to closely monitor weather developments and provide updates regarding school operations as additional information becomes available.
