Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Multiple Southeast Georgia Counties with Damaging Winds Possible

March 12, 2026 — Appling County Emergency Management Agency reported that the National Weather Service Jacksonville issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning impacting several counties across southeastern Georgia, including Appling County, Georgia, Coffee, Pierce, Atkinson, Ware, Bacon, Wayne, and Jeff Davis counties. The warning remained in effect until 9:15 a.m. EDT after radar indicated a line of strong storms stretching from near Graham to south of Nicholls, moving east at approximately 60 mph. Officials warned that the primary hazard includes wind gusts up to 60 mph, which could result in damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Communities in the path of the storm include Baxley, Hazlehurst, Alma, Graham, Surrency, Nicholls, Screven, Odum, and Bristol. Emergency officials urged residents to remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions, noting that tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. A Tornado Watch also remained in effect until 1:00 p.m. EDT for the region. Residents were advised to seek shelter in a sturdy structure, preferably in an interior room on the lowest floor, and to take immediate action if a tornado is spotted.
