GENEVA, NY — March 4th — Students at St. Francis-St. Stephen School were visited by firefighters from the City of Geneva Fire Department to talk about fire safety and introduce kids to firefighting gear. Students were given a talk by Green Shift members about basic house fire safety and the value of understanding how firefighters assist in an emergency. Firefighters demonstrated to kids what a fireman looks like while wearing full protective gear and a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) during the visit.

Children learn from the presentation that firemen are available to assist during a fire while donning masks and other protective gear. Early fire safety education improves children's comprehension of emergencies and their ability to react appropriately, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Such initiatives continue to be crucial to attempts to prevent neighborhood fires.
