GENEVA, NY — February 28th — As part of the department's evolving Rescue/Squad squad, members of the City of Geneva Fire Department recently conducted awareness and operations training centered on ice and cold-water rescue occurrences. Scene safety, equipment use, and emergency response protocols on frozen waters were all covered in the session. Because of the dangers connected with winter weather, departments that operate near lakes and rivers frequently keep ice rescue capabilities.
The National Fire Protection Association states that in order to safely reach victims and shield responders from cold-water risks, specific training and equipment are necessary. Through training and equipment upgrades, the Geneva Fire Department keeps growing its specialized rescue programs. The Geneva community's preparedness and emergency response are strengthened by the creation of teams like the ice and cold-water rescue squad.
