Joint Training Focuses on Autism Awareness for First Responders

— March 2nd — During a recent department practice, Sawkill Fire Company members went through Autism Awareness for First Responders training. Patrick and Jessica Rose led the program, which focused on helping firemen better understand how to assist people with autism during emergencies.


During the presentation, instructors explained the advantages of carrying specific comfort kits containing items designed to keep autistic people happy while receiving care. Following the training, the department bought comparable kits and installed them in each chief's vehicle and truck.


Members of the West Hurley Fire Department also attended the training. Department officials commended the instructors for their interesting class.
