West Danby, NY — March 9th — Recently, West Danby Fire & Rescue welcomed a new employee. Ben has joined the volunteer group and will start training to get ready for community emergency response responsibilities. Before enrolling in classes offered by the New York State fire training system, new firefighters usually get in-house orientation and basic skills training. These courses cover things like using department equipment, hose operations, rescue procedures, and fireground safety.

In Tompkins County, volunteer firemen are crucial because they respond to car crashes, building fires, and other emergencies all year round. Community people who are willing to train and serve are essential to departments such as West Danby. Located at 47 Sylvan Lane, West Danby Fire and Rescue is still accepting new volunteers.
