Raquette Lake Firefighters Strengthen Medical Response Skills

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

RAQUETTE LAKE, NY — February 20th — As part of their continuing emergency medical training, Raquette Lake Fire Department personnel finished a CPR refresher course this week. Four EMTs—Jenn T, Aris, Kurt, and Marybeth—as well as drivers Bruce and Liz F participated in the session. Ambulance Captain Corky Risley taught the session, which included the most recent CPR techniques for cardiac crises. During patient care scenarios, participants performed airway management, chest compressions, and inter-responder coordination.

Frequent CPR training keeps firefighters and emergency medical services certified and ready for medical emergencies. It is commonly acknowledged that performing CPR as soon as possible is crucial to increasing survival in cases of abrupt cardiac arrest. To keep responders prepared for medical situations, departments in Hamilton County and the Adirondack region often do refresher training.
