Busy Weekend of Fire Responses Sees Rapid Mutual Aid Across Multiple Departments

Massapequa, NY - Over the past several days, the department and its neighboring agencies have been actively responding to a series of fires across the area.

The response efforts began on Saturday when crews assisted the Amityville Fire Department at a fire on Ocean Avenue. The following day, on Sunday, firefighters were again called into action for another fire on Braham Avenue. During this incident, the Massapequa Fire Department’s East End responded swiftly despite sub-freezing temperatures, making an aggressive suppression effort to help bring the blaze under control.

Emergency calls continued into Monday. Firefighters first responded to a small fire at the American Legion on Veterans Boulevard in Massapequa. Within the same hour, crews were dispatched to a residential basement fire at 134 East Gate Road, which was quickly contained before it could spread further.

Early Tuesday morning at approximately 4:49 a.m., the department was called to assist the Bellmore Fire Department with two homes on fire on Chapman Avenue. The West End responded to the scene as a water resource and with a truck company.

Upon arrival, firefighters demonstrated skill and coordination by positioning the ladder truck on the block behind the fire buildings, navigating tight conditions. The crew operated the apparatus while Engine 6311 supplied the ladder and stretched a hose line to the rear of the home, assisting in the ongoing firefighting operations.

Throughout the series of incidents, the coordinated response among departments highlighted the dedication, professionalism, and teamwork of the firefighters working to protect their communities.
