MORIAH, NY — February 17th — On Tuesday night, the Moriah Volunteer Fire Department, located at 630 Tarbell Hill Road, held a practice that emphasized tool handling techniques and vehicle extrication equipment. The Jaws of Life, a hydraulic rescue instrument used in auto accidents to cut vehicle frames, remove doors, and release trapped individuals, were demonstrated by firefighters. During the practical training, crews worked on coordination, tool control, and proper posture.

Members also utilized the hydraulic tools to precisely remove stacked blocks in a controlled exercise akin to the game Jenga to strengthen their precision. Firefighters were able to practice consistent movements while using powerful equipment thanks to the drill. Younger firefighters were also introduced to extrication techniques and equipment safety by senior members during the training.
