MINERVA, NY — March 2nd — Junior Member Landyn Jenks was honored by Minerva Volunteer Fire & Rescue, 1495 NY-28N, for being on the Minerva Central School Honor Roll. Students on the Honor Roll consistently maintain a grade point average between 90 and 94.9. Members of the department's junior firefighter program must participate in training, exercises, and community events while maintaining at least a C average in their coursework. Jenks has remained involved in the department while continuing to fulfill those obligations.

In addition to introducing youngsters to the fire department, junior firefighter programs in New York promote accountability, teamwork, and public service. Department heads pointed out that it demands great time management and dedication to balance education with emergency service activity. Jenks' accomplishment demonstrates her commitment to community involvement and education.
