Central Square, NY — February 18th — With support from the Constantia Volunteer Fire Department, members of the Caughdenoy Volunteer Fire Department Inc. took part in a multi-agency snowmobile rescue training exercise organized by Central Square Fire Company No. 1. The exercise replicated a multiple-victim snowmobile crash with a trail groomer on a forested trail. In order to reach the simulated patients, crews used department ATVs to move equipment and rescues almost half a mile into the woods.
In a roadside access point where EMS units typically receive patients, firefighters performed patient assessment, stabilization, and coordinated extrication. Additionally, the department's drone team assisted command by utilizing thermal imaging to look for more victims in the surrounding locations. Such training aids departments in getting ready for winter crises in isolated areas with restricted access.
