This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Livingston Manor, NY — March 8th — Over the weekend, members of the Livingston Manor Fire Department finished their training at the Ice/Cold Water Rescue Technician Level. Firefighter C.A. Hoag, Assistant Chief Hoag, Captain Weickum, Lieutenant Trotti, and Firefighter Bertholf all finished the training with success. Firefighters are trained to respond to events involving victims in frozen lakes, ponds, and rivers through the technician-level curriculum. Coordinated team operations, victim packaging, rope rescue systems, and ice entry procedures were all included in the training.

Particularly in the Northeast, where winter conditions can produce dangerous ice, cold water crises need for specific training and equipment. Such initiatives increase the effectiveness of rescues while assisting firemen in operating safely. According to department heads, the training improves the department's preparedness and facilitates a safe response to emergencies involving ice and cold water throughout the Livingston Manor region.
