February 24, 2026 — Members of the East Shelby Volunteer Fire Company conducted a training drill focused on air pack operations and hose-line navigation techniques used to escape hazardous environments.
During the drill, firefighters practiced moving through tight spaces inside the apparatus bay while wearing SCBA and using a hose line as a guide to safely exit simulated emergency situations. The exercise helps firefighters build familiarity with their equipment and reinforces techniques used when visibility is limited or conditions rapidly deteriorate inside a structure fire.
The hands-on training allowed younger members to gain valuable experience while continuing to develop confidence and teamwork skills.
