Captain Dan Aldrich was commended by the Fredonia Fire Department for his role in a successful cold-water rescue earlier on February 28.

The Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team was dispatched to the Village of Brocton after reports of two people falling through the ice. Aldrich, who leads the county team, dispatched rescue professionals and oversaw the operation, which culminated in both people being safely taken from the water.

Ice rescues, officials stated, necessitate particular training, equipment, and strong leadership due to the perils of frigid water conditions. Members of the department praised Aldrich's expertise and dedication to water rescue operations that benefit communities throughout the county.
