The Aurora Volunteer Fire Department put a new ambulance into operation at 4:00 p.m. on March 7, marking the end of a community-supported effort to improve EMS response in the region.

A local fundraiser and memorial fund raised approximately $120,000, thanks to the efforts of community members. The Aurora-Ledyard Fire District's equipment fund financed the remainder of the costs.

Residents, the Board of Fire Commissioners, and community supporters were praised by department officials for their assistance in ensuring that firemen and EMTs have the necessary equipment to serve the district.
