MONROE, GA — February 20th — The City of Monroe Fire Department has been designated a Gold Helmet Department for its active involvement in the National Firefighter Registry for Cancer.

The registry, led by the nationwide Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), is the most extensive nationwide endeavor to better understand and prevent cancer risks among firefighters in the United States. By participating in the register, firefighters provide valuable health and exposure data that researchers use to investigate long-term occupational dangers in the fire service.
