Harlem Fire Highlights New Side-Mount Pump Design

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On February 27, the Harlem Fire Department highlighted the design of its new engine's pump panels. This is the department's first side-mount pump since 1985, which replaces the top-mounted design utilized since 2003. The improvement increases safety by reducing the need for staff to climb onto the equipment and providing easier access to discharges and intakes at ground level.

The engine has two 200-foot 1¾-inch crosslays of Snap-Tite Conquest hose, each flowing 185 GPM through Elkhart Brass 15/16-inch smooth bore XD nozzles. Each 6-inch steamer connection features dual Akron Brass Revolution intakes. Pre-connected 5-inch LDH and 3-inch supply lines enable hydrant and booster operations. Hose trays organize supply lines without taking compartment space.
