In order to familiarize newer members and prospective future technicians with cold water operations, members of the Arcade Fire Department conducted basic ice water rescue training. An overview of the department's safety regulations, personal protective equipment, and equipment was covered throughout the seminar. In order to show correct processes and reinforce fundamental skills, crews practiced a number of real-world scenarios. The exercise was realistic because the ice was hard and took more work to break through. Members reviewed communication and responsibility while practicing victim access, rope systems, and scene safety.
