January 1st - The South Wall Fire Rescue Department announced the passing of Past Chief Thomas E. Johnson, a longtime member known to many as Tommy. Johnson began working for the department in 1986 and held a number of positions before earning the position of Chief of Department in 1998. By the end of 1999, he had served as chief. Johnson continued to respond to incidents in the Township of Wall while supporting daily operations, department management, and training during his years of service. During a time of change for the department in the late 1990s, members praised his unwavering leadership.
