By ALAN HOFFMAN, Correspondent | September 18, 2019 | PENNSYLVANIA

Story No. 091819114

Back in 1910, members of Slatington Hose Co. #1 dedicated this 12-foot fireman monument, manufactured by J.W. Fiske Iron Works in New York, NY. The fireman holding the child was chosen as a symbol of service, vigilance and humanity. ET Barnum Co. in Detroit manufactured the fountain to provide water for man and beast. Standing as a living memorial to all volunteer firemen, the statue is a tribute to the heroes who are ready to serve at any hour, during any type of weather, and without pay.
